My name is Tristan Arquitt and I am a college sophomore at Arkansas State University. After completing a year at Arkansas Northeastern College, I decided to transfer to ASU. Currently, I live in Lake City, AR which is about 20 minutes outside of Jonesboro. Mass Communication is my first communication class and it is required for my degree in Multimedia Journalism.
After attending class today, I am excited to get more insight on how Mass Communication works and how to use certain media outlets to my advantage. What makes a good student? A good student is someone who is willing to learn new things, take constructive criticism, be organized, punctual and eager to take on new tasks and assignments.
I have had several good teachers in my life and all have had different teaching methods. Two of the teachers which stood out the most were Mr. Dennis Hay and Mr. Kamren Klein who work at ANC (Arkansas Northeastern College). They were both well organized, understanding, motivating and encouraged me to do my best.
Attending school on an academic scholarship, my goal is always to make an A. I am a “deep learner” and a “commitment knower” because I enjoy learning new things and I want to be able to use this knowledge, when I enter my career, after I graduate in May 2019. Last year, I was a member of ANC’s theater group and enjoyed it immensely. It took a lot of my time but I learned so much from the experience. This year, I am focusing solely on my classes in order to follow my dream to one day become a news anchor.
Media is a big part of my life especially social media. I spent a lot of summer break binging shows on Netflix and watching YouTube. This summer I watched all 12 seasons of Grey’s Anatomy. I love movies as well but the last few I have seen were nothing to write home about. One of my all-time favorite movies is “Age of Adeline”. I am a big fan of The Hunger Games books and movies. Most of the music I listen too is downloaded from iTunes but I will occasionally buy a CD at Target or Wal-Mart. The last CD I bought was Tori Kelly’s “Unbreakable Smile”. I often use music apps like Pandora or Spotify.
If I had to rate my internet skills on a scale of 1 to 10, I would say I’m an 8. I first encountered the internet when I was about 9 years old. My mom worked at a real estate office and I sometimes played on the computer. I created my first Myspace account when I was 11 and later moved on to Facebook at about the age of 14. I most frequently access the internet through my iPhone by using apps. My email address is tristan.arquitt@smail.astate.edu and my personal website is tristanarquitt.wordpress.com. I use Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter to keep up with friends and family and share things I’m interested in. Some of my strengths are, I’m outgoing, motivated, creative and determined. Some of my weaknesses are taking on too much, being hard headed, and overthinking.
In the next ten years, I expect to graduate college and work in my career in journalism. I plan on marrying my fiancé, Nathan Armstrong, next year and there may be sometimes that we only have 50 dollars for grocery’s. In that case we would purchase chicken, pasta, two cases of diet Canada Dry because its mine and his favorite drink. We would also buy a bulk size of ramen noodles because Nathan can’t live without them. Lastly, I would have to buy something healthy because unlike Nathan, I love my veggies.
